RDS Irish Craft Bursary 2021
As a silversmith I predominantly hammer over steel forms to create my work, but as my work is influenced by the Irish environment I sometimes bring stone into the workshop and hammer into the hollows or round the stone. With the Royal Dublin Society Irish Craft Bursary I took my hammers outside and explored working directly in the natural rugged landscape. I wanted to challenge my making and see what happens when I hammer fine silver sheet into rocks at the beach. I wanted to explore potential forms created at the intersection of where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Irish coastline.
What started out in the summer months with bare feet ended with woolly tights and thermals. This is a snapshot of my six month journey, to see more videos and images please visit my instagram @silverlandscape
